St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland department of athletics & recreation and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will celebrate NCAA Division III Week for the sixth-consecutive year next week.
The week of April 3-9, 2017 has been designated Division III Week and schools across the country will be celebrating the impact of athletics and of student-athletes on the campus and surrounding community.
St. Mary's will kick off Division III Week on Sunday, April 2 by honoring its 3.0 Club members (student-athletes who have achieved a 3.0 GPA or higher during the academic year) and holding its annual Southern Maryland Special Olympics Field Day.
Throughout the week, the athletic department will also feature essays and video testimonials from select student-athletes, sharing why they chose to attend a Division III school and play collegiate sports at the DIII level.
The student-athletes will head into the local high schools as well to promote athletics and education at a Division III institution.
In addition, the 19 Seahawk varsity teams will compete for bragging rights in the 2017 Seahawks Challenge on April 3-6. The student-athletes will test their skills in dodgeball, kickball, water pong, and Family Feud. The St. Mary's women's basketball team claimed the title last season. Check out the bracket here.
