Mohlhenrich Named Director of Athletic Communications at St. Mary’s

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - St. Mary's is pleased to announce the hiring of Gus Mohlhenrich as the Seahawks' next director of athletic communications, Scott Devine, director of athletics & recreation announced today. Mohlhenrich began his duties on Jan. 3.

"We are truly excited to welcome Gus to the Seahawk athletics family and the St. Mary's College community. Through the search process, we spoke to some talented people.  Gus emerged as our top candidate, so I am extremely pleased that he has accepted our director of athletic communications position. He has the experience and skill set to hit the ground running in this very important role, and we look forward to seeing how he will develop and enhance our video and social media applications."

"I would also like to thank the search committee for their efforts to execute an expedited search at this time of the year, and a big thanks to outgoing director of athletics communications, Nairem Moran for assisting us through this transition period. Once again, I welcome Gus to our team. I know our staff is excited to work with him, and to see where he will lead our athletic communications operation."

Mohlhenrich arrives at St. Mary's after a two and half year stint at Coker College where he served as the director of athletics media relations. During his time at Coker, Mohlhenrich was responsible for promoting and publicizing Coker's 24 NCAA Division II athletic teams. He also managed the content on the College's official athletics website and social media channels. Most recently, Mohlhenrich negotiated terms to partner with Stretch Internet and expanded the Cobra Sports Network, the athletic department's streaming video initiative. The service offers live and on demand HD broadcasts of more than 150 Coker College home athletic events.

He is a member of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and served as the southeast region coordinator for the Division II Collegiate Commissioners Association (D2CCA) men's basketball team.

In addition to his athletic media relations responsibilities, Mohlhenrich served as a member of Coker's Apple Steering Committee, which was tasked to design and implement program objectives for "AccessCoker". "AccessCoker" is an initiative that provides all incoming freshman with iPads. Furthermore, Mohlhenrich was a member of the Coker Staff Advisory Council, which facilitates communication among staff and College administration about interests, concerns, and issues that affect staff and the institution as a whole.

"I would like to thank Scott Devine, Jim Cranmer, and the rest of the search committee for giving me the opportunity to bring in a new era of athletic communications at St. Mary's," Mohlhenrich said. "St. Mary's is a special place with excellent student-athletes, superb athletic facilities, an outstanding coaching staff, and a beautiful campus. To say I'm excited to join the Seahawk family would be an understatement."

Prior to his time at Coker, Mohlhenrich served as the assistant director of athletic communications at Messiah College for two years. While at Messiah he assisted in all aspects of the athletic communications office, including coordinating social media communication, helping produce live video streaming and compiling sports statistics for the Falcons' 22 NCAA Division III athletic teams.

Before arriving at Messiah, Mohlhenrich worked with American Adventure Sports (Greensburg, Pennsylvania), the Bowie Baysox (AA affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles), and Towson University.

Originally from Westminster, Maryland, Mohlhenrich holds a bachelor's degree in sports management from Seton Hill University and a master's degree in college athletics management from Messiah College. Mohlhenrich was a four-year member of Seton Hill's wrestling team where he competed in the 157, 165, and 174 pound weight classes.

He currently resides in Lexington Park with his fiancé Lauren and two dogs, JB and Tucker.
