Boucher and Taylor Headline 2019 SAAC Awards

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - The St. Mary's College of Maryland Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and Athletic Department hosted the 2019 SAAC Awards on Sunday (Apr. 28) evening to recognize the athletic achievements of the Seahawks during the 2018-19 academic year. Headlining the night was sailing member Leo Boucher and women's cross country runner Kara Taylor, winners of the Male and Female Student Athlete of the Year Awards.

Boucher won the Mid-Atlantic Sailing Conference Singlehanded Championships at the U.S. Naval Academy Sept 22-23  (55 schools had the top 18 competitors in the conference) and earned the right to represent St. Mary's College and the conference at the National Championships. At the National Championships co-hosted by Grand Valley State and Hope College in Holland, MI, Boucher finished second, which is the best finish in St. Mary's College history.

Taylor had one of the best seasons in St. Mary's College cross country history. The sophomore from Ellicott City, Maryland was a First Team All-Conference selection in the CAC and was named the CAC Runner of the week in early September. Taylor set new school records in the 5K and 6K, and had the highest placement in the NCAA Mideast Regional in St. Mary's College history with a 28th place finish.

In addition to the Student-Athlete of the Year awards, St. Mary's College distributed 10 other awards.

Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year: Samantha Schoenecker, Women's Swimming

Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year: Sean Tulley, Men's Rowing

SAAC Committee Award: Aaron Tannenbaum, Men's Soccer

SAAC President' Award: Kelbey Egerland, Field Hockey

Female Rookie Athlete of the Year: Brenna Litynski, Women's Swimming

Male Rookie Athlete of the Year: Jude Brown, Men's Lacrosse

Athletic Director's Award: Sydni Thacker, Women's Lacrosse

In addition, the SAAC Awards honored St. Mary's College Athletes of the Month, CAC Players of the Week, and student-athletes who have earned conference (2019 Spring All-Conference has not been released yet), regional, and national recognition.
