How It Happened

  • St. Mary's and the Eagles would battle closely throughout the game, closing the fifth inning tied 9-9. After a scoreless sixth inning for UMW, the Seahawks would take the lead after scoring two runs in their half of the sixth.
  • The Seahawks were led by sophomore centerfielder Lucas Kraft (Clarksburg, Md./Clarksburg) who had a strong showing at the plate with a game-best four hits, including a triple in the bottom of the sixth to bring in sophomore shortstop Brandon Snow (Owings, Md./Northern).
  • Junior third baseman Dan McCann (Laurel, Md./Atholton) would advance Kraft home when he doubled to right center, giving St. Mary's an 11-9 lead.
  • Mary Washington would be shutout over the final four innings. The Seahawks capitalized on their momentum and added three more runs in the seventh for a five-run cushion.
  • St. Mary's would cap off the game in the eighth inning by going on a four-run rally for an insurmountable 11-run advantage.
  • First-year first baseman Jay Hammett (Coltons Point, Md./Chopticon), Snow, and McCann would all notch a double against the Eagles.
  • Sophomore designated hitter Bennett Garner (Bowie, Md./Bowie) and senior leftfielder Dane Pepper (Reston, Va./Montrose Christian) would also help lead the Seahawks recording three RBI each.
