ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - St. Mary's College of Maryland baseball dropped game one of the series to the visiting Southern Virginia University Knights by a final score of 7-3 on Friday (Mar. 29) afternoon in Capital Athletic Conference action.

How It Happened
The Knights built a 7-0 lead through the first four innings of action. St. Mary's College was able to tack on their first run of the game in the bottom of the fifth when Dillon Waters flied out to left field, plating Matt Ansaldi.
St. Mary's College received solid pitching for the remainder of the game and held the Knights scoreless. From the plate, the Seahawks relied on the long ball with two solo shots for their second and third runs. The first home run came in the bottom of the sixth inning when Bowen Plagge blasted a solo shot to left center. Next, D. Waters laid into a pitch, sending it over the the left field fence. However, the Seahawks were unable to complete the comeback in the ninth inning.

Plagge led the Seahawks from the plate going three-of-four with a solo home run. D. Waters, Brady Waters, Dakota Merritt, Tyler Taitano, Holden Marshall, and Ansaldi finished the day with one hit each. On the base paths, Jay Hammett, Merritt, and Marshall stole one base each.
Drew Sturgess got the nod on the mound for the Seahawks, pitching three innings and allowing six earned runs. Jonathan Everidge replaced Sturgess and pitched five solid innings. Everidge allowed zero earned runs and struck out one batter. Sam Roeder finished the game in the ninth inning and held the Knights scoreless, while recording two strikeouts.
