Aston, Pa. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland field hockey team played in their seventh one-goal game of the season Saturday afternoon. St. Mary's (4-4) came out on top with a 2-1 road victory over Neumann University (3-5) in non-conference action. The Seahawks, who have now won three in a row, improve to 3-4 in one-goal contests.

How It Happened

  • St. Mary's outshot the Knights, 19-1, for the game, including taking 12 shots in the second half. The Seahawks posted an 8-2 advantage in penalty corners as well.
  • Thanks to the strong play of Lizzie Yu in goal, Neumann was able to stay in the game. Yu finished the afternoon with 15 stops.
  • First-year midfielder Gabrielle Corder (Sudlersville, Md./Queen Anne's County) put St. Mary's on the scoreboard first at 24:15 as Corder finished off a pass from senior Mollie Belson (Columbia, Md./Atholton) for her second goal of the season.
  • Six saves from Yu sent the Knights into halftime down only 1-0.
  • Ten minutes into the second half, Neumann made the most of its lone shot of the game. Colleen Hoy pulled the Knights even as Hoy took a feed from Sam Picker and found the back of the cage.
  • Senior forward Jessica Zhang (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) tallied the go-ahead goal in the 68th minute off a Corder assist for her first score of the season.
