Fredericksburg, Va. – Junior Max Groen (New Haven, Conn./Choate Rosemary Hall) became the first St. Mary's College of Maryland men's lacrosse player since 2016 to pick up Capital Athletic Conference Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week honors. Groen earned the honor for the week ending March 11. This is Groen's first-ever CAC weekly honor.
The 5-8 attackman was selected as the CAC Player of the Week after tallying 11 points on eight goals and three assists in a 1-1 week for the Seahawks. He finished the week with eight goals on just nine shots for an 88.9 shooting percentage. Groen is the first Seahawk in two years to notch the weekly award since Conor Jordan '16 collected the honor on March 1, 2016.
He opened the week with two goals and an assist in a tough 12-10 loss to Randolph-Macon College mid-week before scoring career-bests of six goals, two assists, and eight points in a dominant 15-5 victory over Marywood University this past Saturday. Groen also added a season-high four ground balls against MU.
Groen currently leads the conference with seven man-up goals while being tied for ninth with 14 goals.
St. Mary's (3-4) will be back in action this Friday, March 16 when the Seahawks travel to Washington, D.C. to face The Catholic University of America (5-3) under the lights at 7:00 p.m. in non-conference action.
