Seahawk Men's Soccer Wins Third Straight on Senior Day

St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team used a goal in each half to put away Wesley College, 2-0, Saturday afternoon on Senior Day. St. Mary's (7-1-0 CAC) moves into second place in the Capital Athletic Conference standings with today's win and just one point behind first-place Christopher Newport University (7-0-1 CAC).

How It Happened

  • Shots were even in the first half at six apiece while St. Mary's posted a 5-1 margin in corner kicks.
  • The Seahawks were able to put one of their scoring opportunities past Jake Price in the 37th minute when junior captain Juwan Kearson (Baltimore, Md./St. Paul's School) dribbled past three defenders and took Price one-on-one with a shot at the near post over Price's head.
  • The even play continued in the second stanza with Wesley edging the Seahawks, 8-7, in shots and St. Mary's doubling up the Wolverines, 4-2, in corners.
  • St. Mary's insurance marker came at 77:10 when sophomore forward Khalid Balogun (Bowie, Md./Bowie) sent in a cross from the left side to the far post and senior forward Adam Kratz (Owings, Md./Northern) connected with a low diving header.

For the Seahawks (11-5-0, 7-1-0 CAC)

  • Scorers: Kearson (1 goal); Kratz (1 goal); Balogun (1 assist)
  • Goalkeeper: Zack Haussler (6 saves, 0 goals allowed, 90:00)
  • St. Mary's notched its eight shutout of the season (and second in a row) with 13 shots (five on goal) and nine corner kicks.

For Wesley (3-11-1, 1-7-0 CAC)

  • Scorer: None
  • Goalkeeper: Price (3 saves, 2 goals allowed, 90:00)
  • The Wolverines fired 14 shots (seven on goal) and earned three corners.

Notes

  • The Seahawks improve to 11-8-1 all-time against Wesley with three consecutive wins.
