St. Mary's Men's Soccer Wins Second Straight

Takoma Park, Md. – Sophomore forward Isaac Ekobo (Hyattsville, Md./Thomas Stone) put up two goals as the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team notched their second straight victory Monday evening. The Seahawks (6-1-2) picked up a 3-1 non-conference win over NAIA Washington Adventist University (2-3-0).

How It Happened

  • St. Mary's outshot the Shock, 19-7, and posted a 7-2 margin in corner kicks for the match.
  • The Seahawks fired off 14 shots in the first 45 minutes but William Benitez turned away seven shots to hold the visitors to just one goal in the first half.
  • Junior midfielder Brad Moore (Crofton, Md./South River) put St. Mary's on the scoreboard at 28:22 as Moore finished off a pass from junior defender Zackary Yurich (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore) to send the team into halftime with a 1-0 lead.
  • Ekobo doubled the Seahawks' advantage in the 60th minute as sophomore forward Roshawn Panton (Bowie, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) fed Ekobo for his third tally of the season.
  • Washington Adventist cut the deficit in half three minutes later when Stefone Coburn found the back of the net.
  • Ekobo struck again in the 84th minute with an insurance marker as junior forward Khalid Balogun (Bowie, Md./Bowie) assisted on the play.

For the Seahawks

  • Scorers: Ekobo (2 goals); Moore (1 goal); Balogun (1 assist); Panton (1 assist); Yurich (1 assist)
  • Goalkeeper: Patrick Paolini (2 saves, 1 goal allowed, 90:00)

For Washington Adventist

  • Scorers: Coburn (1 goal)
  • Goalkeeper: Benitez (8 saves, 3 goals allowed, 90:00)

Notes

  • The Seahawks have now won all eight meetings with Washington Adventist (formerly known as Columbia Union College), outscoring the Shock, 42-7.
