Norfolk, Va. – The College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) released its 2017 fall list of CSCAA Scholar All-America Men's Swim Teams on Monday. St. Mary's College of Maryland was one of 688 teams honored by the coaches' organization as the Seahawks picked up their third team scholar award under second-year head coach Casey Brandt.
The awards are in recognition of teams that achieved a grade point average of 3.0 or higher during the 2017 Fall Semester.
St. Mary's posted a 3.57 team grade point average during the 2017 Fall Semester, missing the Scholar All-America Top 10 by one swimmer. In order, to be considered for the Top 10, a team needed to have a minimum of 12 swimmers in the fall but the Seahawks only had 11. St. Mary's was one of 110 Division III men's swim teams to receive the accolade for the fall semester.
The Seahawks were only of two Capital Athletic Conference men's swim teams to be honored by the CSCAA as York College of Pennsylvania (3.05) also made the cut. In addition, St. Mary's and York were the only two CAC institutions to have both of their men's and women's swim teams recognized as Scholar All-America Teams.
