Scott's Bronze Highlights St. Mary's Men's Swimming Day Three at CAC Championships

St. Mary's City, Md. – First-year Andrew Scott (California, Md./Leonardtown) clinched a third-place finish in the 200 freestyle to lead the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's swim team on the third day of the 2018 Capital Athletic Conference Men's Swimming Championships on Saturday. Awards were given out in the 200 medley relay, the 400 individual medley, the 100 butterfly, the 200 freestyle, the 100 breaststroke, and the 100 backstroke.

How It Happened

  • Scott claimed a bronze medal in the 200 freestyle by swimming a 1:43.91 while junior Colin Cassady (Phoenix, Md./Calvert Hall) also earned a podium spot with a fifth-place finish in 1:44.59.
  • Sophomore Peter Orban (Montgomery Village, Md./Watkins Mill) notched a fourth-place finish in the 100 backstroke in 53.50 while the foursome of Orban, senior captain Kieran Broder (Olney, Md./Georgetown Prep), sophomore Ryan Akhavan (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) and junior Reed Rhoads (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) took fifth in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:37.62.
  • Broder went to the podium again with an eighth-place finish in the 100 breaststroke in 1:00.12 while senior Maxwell Madden (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) won the consolation final of the 400 individual medley in 4:28.47 for ninth overall.
  • First-year Nate Donoghue (Lanham, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) picked up a third-place finish in the consolation final of the 100 butterfly for 11th overall in 53.93.
  • The Seahawks currently stand fourth in the six-team field with 250.5 points, a 42.5-point lead over fifth-place Frostburg State University. The three-day championship event will wrap up on Sunday, February 25 with the crowning of the team champion. The University of Mary Washington holds the No. 1 spot in the team standings with 590 points and is chasing its 24th overall, and 18th consecutive, CAC championship title, while York College of Pennsylvania is second with 453.5 points.
