St. Mary's Men's Tennis Picks up Win in CAC Regular-Season Finale
St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's tennis team rolled to a 9-0 shutout of the visiting Stevenson University Mustangs in the Capital Athletic Conference regular-season finale Sunday afternoon.
St. Mary's (17-3, 6-1 CAC) blanking of Stevenson (5-8, 2-5 CAC) is the team's 10th shutout victory of the season, including four against conference opponents.
The tandem of senior captain Thomas Hoesman (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) and junior Kyle Feeley (Baltimore, Md./Mount Saint Joseph) earned an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles to extend their win streak to four in a row.
Sophomore Andrew Gear (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) posted a 6-1, 6-4 triumph at No. 1 singles for his eighth consecutive singles win.
Feeley owns an eight-match win streak as well as he tallied a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles while Guzzone recorded his eighth singles win in a row with a 6-2, 6-4 victory at the sixth flight.
The Seahawks also feature two players with 20-win seasons in singles action as Gear is at 21-3 and Guzzone is close behind with a 20-3 record.
Up next for St. Mary's will be the semifinals of the 2012 CAC Men's Tennis Championship Tournament on April 23rd at the Somerset Tennis Complex as the Seahawks secured the second seed and a first-round bye in the tournament by virtue of their 5-4 win over Salisbury University on April 13.
