Seahawk Men's Tennis Stumbles against Undefeated Greenville

Hilton Head Island, S.C. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's tennis team (3-3) continued action at the PTR Spring TennisFest down in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina Wednesday morning, falling 8-1 to undefeated Greenville University (9-0) in non-conference action.

How It Happened

Doubles:

  • Sophomores Jon Gorel (Jessup, Md./Hammond) and Ethan Garren (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) came up short at No. 1 doubles as they fell to Greenville's Nate Wieland and Justin Tilford, 9-7.
  • Senior captain James Loftis (Annapolis, Md./Saint Andrews (Del.)) and sophomore Ron Stith (Cheltenham, Md./Henry Lackey) put up a strong fight as well against Gabriel Munoz and Austin Burkhart but fell 8-6 at No. 3 doubles.

Singles:

  • Gorel took home the lone point on the day for St. Mary's as he beat Wieland 6-1, 4-6, 10-7 at No. 1 singles.
