St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland sailing team notched five Top 5 finishes across four regattas on March 3-4, including a second-place finish at their own St. Mary's Quad Fleet Race.

St. Mary's Quad Fleet Race – 2nd, 4th, 6th, and 7th of 11

  • St. Mary's hosted a scrimmage over the weekend with the U.S. Naval Academy, Old Dominion University, and Georgetown University.

  • Navy Midshipmen 2 captured the event while the Seahawks claimed second, fourth, sixth and seventh overall.

George Washington Team Race – 3rd of 6

  • Skippers Dane Byerly (Seabrook, Texas/Clear Springs), Mackenzie Cooper (Southampton, Bermuda/Tabor [Mass.]), and Liam McCarthy (St. Petersburg, Fla./St. Petersburg) and crew Thomas Walker (Henrico, Va.), Lydia McPherson-Shambarger (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck), and Kira Allen (Portland, Ore./Lincoln) took third in the event while Georgetown claimed first.

Old Dominion Spring Women's – 4th of 10

  • The waters were too rough and forced the sailors to wait until Sunday to compete. The teams sailed six races with two divisions on the water – A in FJs and B in Z420s – taking a lunch break. After lunch, the fleets switched and they sailed another three races before calling it a day.

  • Georgetown won the regatta while St. Mary's came in fourth.

Bob Bavier Team Race (College of Charleston) – 4th of 9

  • Saturday was delayed until 1:30 p.m. because of the high winds but after they leveled off they created great sailing conditions. Roger Williams University finished the day in first place with the host not far behind in second while the Seahawks were in sixth place.

  • Sunday had perfect sailing conditions with winds blowing north/northeast at 8 to 15 knots. Roger Williams held on to first overall after defeating Charleston in a tiebreaker.

  • Skippers Josh Paper (West Friendship, Md./Glenelg), Lewis Cooper (Southampton, Bermuda/Tabor [Mass.]), and Bradley Adam (East Greenwich, R.I./Rocky Hill) and crews Kate Bjerregaard (Bristol, R.I./La Salle), Sophia Taczak (Annapolis, Md./Severn), Allison Gingerich (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) and Ashley Wagner (Wye Mills, Md./Saints Peter and Paul) finished fourth overall right behind Yale University and in front of Eckerd College.
