Fourth Quarter Surge Pushes Bobcats Past Seahawks

SAINT MARY'S CITY, Md. - The St. Mary's women's basketball team (4-9, 0-2 CAC) fell to the visiting Frostburg State University Bobcats (10-2, 2-0 CAC) 60-55 due to a fourth quarter surge from FSU. The Bobcats outscored the Seahawks 18-11 in the final quarter to push themselves past St. Mary's.

How It Happened

  • After a slow start to the contest, the Seahawks trailed the Bobcats 16-10 at the end of the opening quarter. St. Mary's battled back in the second quarter, outscoring FSU 10-4 to even the game at 20. Kyaira Priest, Katie Robey, Hallie Persell, and LaTavia Washington all tallied buckets during the run.

  • Seven lead changes occured in the span of the next two quarters with St. Mary's pulling ahead on the scoreboard 44-42 heading into the final stanza of action. The Seahawks bested the Bobcats in shooting percentage from the field in those two quarters, shooting 40 percent and forcing six turnovers committed by FSU.

  • St. Mary's pulled out to their largest lead of the game in the opening minutes of the final stanza (50-44), thanks to made jumpers from Washington and Gina Seifert. However, the Bobcats rallied to regain the lead and shot 80 percent from the charity stripe to seal the victory.

Inside the Box Score

  • Washington led St. Mary's on the offensive end with a season-best 19 points, while adding four rebounds and two steals to her stat line.

  • Seifert led the charge defensively with eight rebounds, four steals and two blocks.

  • Persell made contributions in all phases of the game, collecting 11 points, four rebounds, and one block.

  • Amanda Emory led the way for the Bobcats, knocking down a team-high 18 points. Additionally, she added six steals and four blocks. Victoria Diggs racked up 17 points coming off the bench.
