St. Mary's Women's Lacrosse Blanks Wesley in CAC Action

St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's lacrosse dominated Saturday afternoon as the Seahawks rolled to a 17-0 Capital Athletic Conference win over the Wesley College Wolverines. This is the second time in the series history between St. Mary's and the Wolverines that the Seahawks have shutout Wesley (first time happened in 2015).

Senior captain Meg Gesner (Severna Park, Md./Severn) put up a career performance with career-bests of five goals, three assists, and eight points while junior captain Megan Cannon (Reisterstown, Md./Notre Dame Prep) collected her second straight hat trick with three goals and an assist in today's action.

How It Happened

  • Gesner (4 G, 2 A) and Cannon (3 G, 1 A) combined for 10 points in the first half as the Seahawks boasted an 11-0 halftime advantage.
  • St. Mary's won all 12 draw controls in the first half and finished with a 17-1 margin for the game as first-year midfielder Kate Bartholomew (Galena, Md./Kent County) came up with a game- and season-best eight draw controls.
  • The Wolverines were held to two shots in each half and missed both of their free-position attempts.
  • Senior defender Haley Sieglein (Baltimore, Md./Friends) led the Seahawks' defensive effort with a career- and game-best five caused turnovers. As a team, St. Mary's caused 14 of Wesley's 22 miscues.

For St. Mary's (6-5, 2-0 CAC)

  • Along with her eight draw controls, Bartholomew added season-bests of two goals, three points, and two ground balls.
  • Sophomore attacker Ali Collie (Glen Arm, Md./Dulaney) contributed career-highs of two goals and three ground balls.
  • St. Mary's outshot the Wolverines, 40-4, and tallied a 24-9 margin in ground balls.

For Wesley (5-3, 0-3 CAC)
