Seahawk Women's Swimming Takes on York and Ursinus in Tri-Meet

York, Pa. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's swim team competed in a tri-meet Saturday afternoon hosted by York College of Pennsylvania with Ursinus College. St. Mary's (1-3, 0-2 CAC) succumbed to a 160-42 Capital Athletic Conference setback at the hands of York (4-1, 2-0 CAC) while dropping a 160-41 decision to Ursinus (3-0).

How It Happened

  • First-year Anna LaPoint (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) continued to impress as LaPoint finished third in the 500 freestyle by swimming a time of 5:28.80 and posted a fourth-place finish in the 200 freestyle in 2:02.90.
  • LaPoint anchored the fifth-place 400 freestyle relay with first-year Alekxandra Grcic (North Potomac, Md./Quince Orchard), senior captain Rachel Sonnenberg (Derwood, Md./Magruder), and junior Rachel Yates (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island).
  • Sophomore Carolyn Sutton (Laurel, Md./Laurel), junior Hailley Baughman (Lineboro, Md./Manchester Valley), R. Sonnenberg, and Grcic posted a time of 4:42.87 in the 400 medley relay for fifth.
  • Junior Elizabeth Valenti (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) notched a pair of fifth-place finishes in the 1,000 freestyle (11:44.84) and the 400 individual medley (5:08.14).
  • R. Sonnenberg led St. Mary's in the 200 butterfly with a sixth-place finish in 2:30.64 while Baughman came in sixth in the 200 breaststroke in 2:37.44.
  • Sutton tallied a seventh-place finish in the 50 freestyle in 26.32 as well as a ninth-place finish in the 200 backstroke in 2:23.82.
  • Grcic competed in the 100 freestyle and swam a time of 57.66 for eighth place.
