Westminster, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's swim team traveled to Western Maryland Friday afternoon to take on host McDaniel College in a non-conference dual meet. The Seahawks notched their third loss of the season, dropping a 58-37 decision to fall to 5-3 on the year.
Senior captain Erin O'Connor (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) and sophomores Zoe McIlmail (Frederick, Md./Urbana) and Cara Machlin (Rockville, Md./Walter Johnson) each captured individual gold for St. Mary's.
McIlmail and Machlin posted a 1-2 finish in the 200 freestyle as McIlmail took top honors in 2:02.87 followed by Machlin less than a second later.
Machlin then won the 200 butterfly in 2:18.60 while senior Claire Huckenpoehler (Towson, Md./Towson) claimed a third-place finish in the event.
O'Connor picked up her individual win in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:34.44. O'Connor added a second-place finish in the 1000 freestyle (11:20.64) followed by senior Hanna Rizkallah (Frederick, Md./Urbana) in third.
Junior Elaina Kohles (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll School) collected a pair of second-place finishes in the 200 individual medley (2:20.87) and the 500 freestyle (5:32.45). O'Connor was less than two seconds behind Kohles in the 200 IM for a third-place finish.
McIlmail added a second-place finish in the 100 freestyle (56.56) while sophomore Karlie Straight (Ocean City, Md./Stephen Decatur) took second in the 200 backstroke (2:23.04) and senior captain Stefania D'Ambrosio (Chevy Chase, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) placed third in the 50 freestyle (26.22).
St. Mary's will be back in action next Friday, November 22nd as the Seahawks return to Capital Athletic Conference action, hosting Frostburg State University at the Aquatics Center at the Michael P. O'Brien Athletics & Recreation Center at 6:30 pm.
