St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's swim team battled hard against Randolph-Macon College Friday afternoon but the Seahawks (2-2) dropped the non-conference dual meet by a 115-85 decision.
Senior captain Thor Petersen (Germantown, Md./Northwest) won the 100 breaststroke in 1:02.26, out-touching R-MC's first-year Josh Carter (Mechanicsville, Va./Atlee) by 0.20 seconds.
The foursome of first-year Andrew Braun (Bowie, Md./DeMatha Catholic), senior Ryan Wilson (Jarrettsville, Md./North Harford), sophomore Zach Lilley (Myersville, Md./Middletown), and first-year Andrew Braker (Olney, Md./Sherwood) posted a time of 1:47.11 to place second in the 200 medley relay.
First-year Matt Walchuck paced the Seahawks in the 200 freestyle with a second-place finish in 1:51.08 while junior Dylan Cope (Scottsdale, Ariz./Chaparral) took third (1:53.73). Sophomore Michael Speer (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) placed second in the 50 freestyle in 22.85 as Lilley was close behind for third in 22.98.
St. Mary's claimed second and third in the 200 individual medley as senior captain Jimmy Forest (Columbia, Md./Atholton) was second (2:04.78) and Petersen third in 2:06.04.
Sophomore Grant Burgess (Fallston, Md./Fallston) came in second in the 100 butterfly with a time of 56.44 while Speer placed second in the 100 freestyle in 49.66. Forest notched a second-place finish in the 100 backstroke in 57.74.
Cope, Lilley, Forest, and Speer tallied a second-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:30.42, finishing just 0.37 seconds behind Randolph-Macon's first-place A relay team.
Burgess led the Seahawks in the 1000 and 500 freestyle events with a pair of third-place finishes. He garnered a time of 10:29.56 in the 1000 while finishing the 500 in 5:04.52.
The Seahawks will be back in the pool tomorrow as St. Mary's travels to York College of Pennsylvania for a quad meet at 1:00 pm with Dickinson College and St. Vincent College.
