York, Pa. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's swim team picked up two wins at the quad meet hosted by York College of Pennsylvania Saturday afternoon. The Seahawks (5-2, 2-0 CAC) posted a 125-79 Capital Athletic Conference victory over York and a 104-100 triumph over St. Vincent College before dropping a 115-89 non-conference decision to Dickinson College.
Junior captain Brooke Raab (Parkton, Md./Hereford) continued her strong performance as Raab won all three of her events. She notched gold medals in the 200 individual medley (2:16.62), the 200 butterfly (2:19.67), and the 200 breaststroke (2:33.71).
Junior Elaina Kohles (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll School) tallied a gold medal of her own in the 1000 freestyle with a winning time of 11:02.50. Senior captain Erin O'Connor (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) picked up a third-place finish in the same event with a time of 11:15.97.
The foursome of sophomore Karlie Straight (Ocean City, Md./Stephen Decatur), senior captain Stefania D'Ambrosio (Chevy Chase, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase), sophomore Cara Machlin (Rockville, Md./Walter Johnson), and sophomore Zoe McIlmail (Frederick, Md./Urbana) swam a 4:18.43 to claim a second-place finish in the 400 medley relay.
McIlmail grabbed a second-place finish in the 200 freestyle in 2:02.55 while O'Connor came in second to Raab in the 200 breaststroke in 2:36.65. Straight notched a third-place finish in the 200 backstroke in 2:22.47 while Kohles was third in the 500 freestyle (5:30.29) followed by O'Connor in fourth less than two seconds later.
Kohles took fourth in the 200 individual medley (2:20.44) while Machlin placed fourth in the 200 butterfly (2:19.67). The Seahawks staked a fifth-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay (4:10.54) behind the efforts of senior Hanna Rizkallah (Frederick, Md./Urbana), first-year Samantha Liming (Silver Spring, Md./JFK), sophomore Katie Andersen (Clarksville, Md./River Hill), and senior Claire Huckenpoehler (Towson, Md./Towson).
D'Ambrosio led the Seahawks in the 50 freestyle with a sixth-place finish (26.34) while McIlmail finished sixth in the 100 freestyle in 57.56.
St. Mary's will be back in action on Friday, November 15th as the Seahawks travel to Westminster, Md. to take on McDaniel College in a non-conference dual meet at 4:00 pm.
