Fredericksburg, Va. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's swim team took on the University of Mary Washington in Capital Athletic Conference action Saturday afternoon. The Eagles (6-1, 3-0 CAC) posted a 126-78 win over St. Mary's (4-8, 2-2 CAC).
Senior captain Jimmy Forest (Columbia, Md./Atholton) captured the 200 individual medley in 2:03.50 while sophomore Grant Burgess (Fallston, Md./Fallston) led a 1-2 Seahawk finish in the 500 freestyle as Burgess won the event in 4:58.98 followed by first-year Matt Walchuck (Middletown, Md./Middletown) in second (5:01.48).
Senior captain Thor Petersen (Germantown, Md./Northwest) garnered St. Mary's final event win in the 200 breaststroke, claiming top honors in 2:16.26.
The foursome of sophomore Zach Lilley (Myersville, Md./Middletown), Petersen, Burgess, and junior Bobby Witkop (Chevy Chase, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) swam a 1:42.89 to take second in the 200 medley relay.
Burgess finished second in the 1000 freestyle in 10:21.23 while Lilley was second in the 50 freestyle in 23.43.
Petersen paced the Seahawks in the 200 butterfly with a second-place finish in 2:04.26 while Forest placed second in the 100 freestyle in 49.96.
Junior Dylan Cope (Scottsdale, Ariz./Chaparral) had a second-place finish in the 200 backstroke in 2:04.98 while Cope, Forest, Walchuck, and Lilley came in second in the 200 freestyle relay in 1:32.82.
Walchuck led the team in the 200 freestyle with a third-place finish in 1:49.68.
St. Mary's will be back in the pool on Saturday, February 1st when the Seahawks welcome Salisbury University to the Aquatics Center at the Michael P. O'Brien Athletics & Recreation Center for the regular-season finale at 1:00 p.m.
