Frostburg, Md. – St. Mary's College of Maryland men's swimming picked up an 80-15 Capital Athletic Conference victory over host Frostburg State University but fell 77-18 to West Virginia University Institute of Technology in a double dual meet Saturday afternoon.
The Seahawks (3-5, 2-1 CAC) notched a second-place finish in the 400 medley relay in 4:15.92 behind the efforts of junior Zach Lilley (Myersville, Md./Middletown), first-year Kieran Broder (Olney, Md./Georgetown Prep), senior captain Bobby Witkop (Chevy Chase, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase), and sophomore Andrew Braker (Olney, Md./Sherwood).
Burgess claimed a second-place finish in the 800 freestyle in 9:07.32 while first-year Max Madden (Cape St. Clair, Md./Broadneck) took third in 9:23.36. Sophomore Matt Walchuck (Middletown, Md./Middletown) tallied a second-place finish in the 200 freestyle in 2:03.74.
Junior Michael Speer (Springfield, Va./West Springfield) picked up a pair of second-place finishes in the 50 freestyle (25.15) and the 100 freestyle (55.06).
The foursome of Walchuck, Witkop, Lilley, and Speer staked a second-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:50.81.
Witkop picked up a third-place finish in the 200 individual medley in 2:24.43 while junior Grant Burgess (Fallston, Md./Fallston) placed third in the 200 butterfly in 2:18.27.
Lilley tallied a third-place finish in the 200 backstroke in 2:24.84 while Walchuck was third in the 400 freestyle in 4:29.09. Broder led the Seahawks in the 200 breaststroke with a fourth-place finish in 2:41.37.
St. Mary's will be back in action on Friday, November 21st as the Seahawks welcome Washington College to The Aquatic Center at the Michael P. O'Brien Athletics & Recreation Center for a non-conference dual meet at 5:30 p.m.
