St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's swim team cruised to a 154-51 Capital Athletic Conference victory over Salisbury University Saturday afternoon as the Seahawks captured all 11 events.
In St. Mary's final regular-season meet, juniors Brooke Raab (Parkton, Md./Hereford) and Hannah Hafey (Germantown, Md./Seneca Valley) and sophomore Zoe McIlmail (Frederick, Md./Urbana) each claimed three gold medals.
The Seahawks posted a 1-2 finish in the 400 medley relay as the foursome of Hafey, Raab, sophomore Cara Machlin (Rockville, Md./Walter Johnson), and McIlmail took first in 4:12.17 while sophomore Karlie Straight (Ocean City, Md./Stephen Decatur), senior Stefania D'Ambrosio (Chevy Chase, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase), junior Kelsey Abernathy (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial), and sophomore Katie Andersen (Clarksville, Md./River Hill) finished second (4:21.28).
Senior Erin O'Connor (Potomac, Md./Winston Churchill) led a 1-2 finish in the 1000 freestyle as O'Connor went first in 11:13.57 while fellow classmate Hanna Rizkallah (Frederick, Md./Urbana) placed second (11:39.65).
Another 1-2 finish occurred in the 200 freestyle as McIlmail won the event in 2:00.46 and junior Elaina Kohles (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll School) came in second (2:00.96). Hafey and Abernathy were a 1-2 punch in the 50 freestyle as Hafey finished first in 26.75 followed by Abernathy in second (26.82).
St. Mary's swept the 200 individual medley as Raab touched the wall first in 2:18.80 followed by D'Ambrosio in second (2:25.39) and Straight in third (2:26.86). Raab paced the team in the 200 butterfly with a gold medal in 2:18.13.
The Seahawks continued to roll through the meet with another 1-2 finish in the 100 freestyle as McIlmail claimed the event in 57.06 and O'Connor was second (58.50). Hafey and Straight led the way in the 200 backstroke as Hafey won the event in 2:18.49 while Straight placed second (2:23.97).
Another SMCM sweep came in the 500 freestyle, led by Kohles in first (5:26.67), Machlin in second (5:31.39), and Rizkallah in third (5:38.55) while O'Connor took the gold in the 200 breaststroke in 2:33.19.
Kohles, Andersen, Rizkallah and Abernathy joined forces for a first-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay in 3:59.53.
St. Mary's won't be back in the pool until February 21-23 when the Seahawks host the CAC Men's and Women's Swimming Championships.
