St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's swim team jumped into the pool for their first dual meet of the 2016-17 season against the Marymount (Va.) University Saints on Saturday afternoon. The Saints would top St. Mary's, 117-84, to gain their first win of the season.

Seahawks Highlights
- The Seahawks would walk away with four gold medals in this meet behind two golds apiece from junior captain Lizzie Straathof (Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson) and sophomore Elizabeth Valenti (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard).
- St. Mary's would also earn five silver medals to complete the day.
- Valenti would take the first gold medal of the day in the 1,000 freestyle with a time of 11:31.35.
- The Seahawks received consecutive wins as Straathof took the first-place slot in the 200 freestyle in 2:02.59.
- Sophomore Rachel Yates (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island) made it three straight wins as Yates took the gold in the 50 freestyle with a time of 26.65.
- The final first-place finish of the day would be in the 400 freestyle relay as Valenti and captains Samantha Liming (Silver Spring, Md./JFK), Rachel Sonnenberg (Derwood, Md./Magruder), and Straathof would show impeccable teamwork and come in with a time of 3:56.99.
- The 400 medley relay team of first-year Carolyn Sutton (Laurel, Md./Laurel), sophomore Hailley Baughman (Lineboro, Md./Manchester Valley), Sonnenberg, and Straathof started off the day for the Seahawks with a second-place finish in 4:12.32.
- Sonnenberg nabbed a silver medal for herself in the 200 butterfly in 2:27.77.
- Yates also collected a second-place finish in the 100 freestyle in 59.88 while sophomore Samantha Schoenecker (Dallas, Texas/Woodrow Wilson) came in three-hundredths of a second later for third.
- Liming led the Seahawks in the 500 freestyle with a second-place finish in 5:47.12.
- The final silver came in the 200 breaststroke as Baughman finished the race in 2:40.29.
