Seahawk Men's Swimming Earns First Victory over Frostburg State

Frostburg, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's swim team (1-3, 1-2 CAC) would earn their first victory of the season against Capital Athletic Conference foe, Frostburg State University (5-5, 0-3 CAC), on Saturday afternoon.

How It Happened

- First-year Peter Orban (Montgomery Village, Md./Watkins Mill) would lead the Seahawks in the win with four gold medals – two individual and two relays. He won the 100 backstroke (1:02.43) and the 200 backstroke (2:18.96). Senior captain Andrew Braker (Olney, Md./Sherwood) helped St. Mary's with a 1-2 finish in the 200 backstroke as he took second in 2:20.74.
- The Seahawks would kick off the meet with a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay as Orban, junior Kieran Broder (Olney, Md./Georgetown Prep), junior Lucas Delgado Bowie, Md./Gonzaga [D.C.]), and senior captain Matt Walchuck (Middletown, Md./Middletown) swam a time of 1:55.03.
- Braker, first-year Andrew March (Westminster, Md./Westminster), first-year Ryan Akhavan (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck), and sophomore Reed Rhoads (Westminster, Md./Winter Mills) would take silver in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:58.36.
- Walchuck led a 1-2 finish in the 800 freestyle as he won the event in 9:15.98 and senior captain Andrew Braun (Bowie, Md./DeMatha) followed in second with a time of 9:32.89.
- Walchuck picked up his third gold medal in the 100 freestyle (54.77) while sophomore Colin Cassady (Phoenix, Md./Calvert Hall) came in second in 56.13.
- Braun would earn an individual gold in the 400 freestyle in 4:31.37 and grab a silver medal in the 50 freestyle in 26.03. Rhoads placed third in the 50 free with a time of 26.13.
- Braker successfully completed the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:05.17 to earn nine points and a first-place finish for the Seahawks. Cassady followed closely behind Braker, earning the second-place spot with a time of 2:05.56.
- Broder and March would earn high points for the Seahawks in the 100 breaststroke. Broder would come in at 1:10.36 to take the gold while March followed quickly after at 1:14.71 to earn second place.
- Akhavan notched first place in the 200 butterfly in 2:24.53 while Delgado claimed third in 2:30.73.
- Cassady would contribute a gold medal in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:02.79 followed by Akhavan in second in 1:03.37.
- The final gold of the meet came in the 200 freestyle relay which featured Braker, Akhavan, Orban, and Cassady.
- Broder paced the team in both the 200 breaststroke (2:36.20) and the 100 individual medley (1:05.65), finishing second in both events.

Up Next for the Seahawks
The Seahawks return home Friday, November 18 for a dual meet against Washington College at 6:00 p.m.
