St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's swim team hosted the Eagles of the University of Mary Washington on Saturday afternoon for a Capital Athletic Conference dual meet. St. Mary's (2-6, 1-3 CAC) dropped a 197-62 decision to Mary Washington (6-0, 3-0 CAC), who received votes in this week's CSCAA/TYR Top 25 Swimming & Diving Poll. The Eagles also rank eighth in the West-Midwest-South region.

How It Happened
- First-year Anna LaPoint (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) opened up 2018 the same way she closed 2017 as she took home first place in the 1,000 freestyle. LaPoint swam an 11:20.60 which was 16 seconds faster than the second-place finisher. She also finished second in the 500 freestyle as she swam a 5:31.87 while coming in third in the 100 freestyle (57.35).
- Sophomore Carolyn Sutton (Laurel, Md./Laurel) took second in the 100 backstroke as she swam a 1:05.12. Sutton continued to contribute as she gathered another second-place finish in the 50 freestyle with a time of 26.44.
- Junior Hailley Baughman (Lineboro, Md./Manchester Valley) would also take second in both the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:09.85 and the 200 breaststroke at 2:36.10.
- The foursome of Sutton, Baughman, and the Sonnenberg sisters (Derwood, Md./Magruder) grabbed a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay in 1:58.17.
- In the 200 freestyle relay, St. Mary's notched a second-place finish as well in 1:46.53 behind the efforts of Sutton, LaPoint, Rachel Sonnenberg, and Baughman.
- R. Sonnenberg finished third in the 200 freestyle (2:06.44) while Becca Sonnenberg placed third in the 200 butterfly (2:31.13).
- First-year Elizabeth Johnson (Salisbury, Md./Mardela Springs) paced the Seahawks with a third-place finish in the 200 backstroke (2:25.63).
