St. Mary’s College Men’s Swimming Takes Two of Three at Atlantic East Quad Meet

ST. MARY'S COLLEGE, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's swim team opened up Atlantic East Conference competition Saturday afternoon, hosting Cabrini University (4-0, 3-0 AEC), Immaculata University (1-4, 0-3 AEC), and Marymount (Va.) University (1-5, 1-2 AEC) in the Seahawks' first home meet of the 2021-22 season at the Aquatics Center at the Michael P. O'Brien Athletics & Recreation Center.
 
St. Mary's College (2-2, 2-1 AEC) took down Immaculata, 98-60, and Marymount, 99-78, but dropped a 139-54 decision to Cabrini. Junior Sebastian Ludwig (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) and first-year Luke Schwenk (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) each picked up an individual win to lead the Seahawks.
 
How It Happened
  • Ludwig's victory came in the 1000 freestyle as he posted a winning time of 10:50.78 to remain undefeated in the event following two meets.
  • Schwenk picked up his win in the 100 backstroke, touching the wall first in 53.61 to also stay undefeated in the event on the young season.
  • Schwenk added a second-place finish in the 200 individual medley in 2:02.24 followed by Ludwig in fifth in 2:13.11.
  • Junior Anri Cifuentes Robinson (Easton, Md./Easton) paced the Seahawks in the 100 breaststroke with a second-place finish in 1:05.09.
  • St. Mary's College began the meet with a third-place finish in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:46.38 behind the efforts of Schwenk, first-year Sam Meisel (Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson), sophomore Sam Shenot (Upper Marlboro, Md./Leonardtown), and junior captain Jack Kennedy (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area).
  • Kennedy notched a second third-place finish in the 100 freestyle, clocking a 51.31.
  • The 200 freestyle relay team of Ludwig, first-year Aiden Hirschrankin (Frederick, Md./Tuscarora), Meisel, and Shenot placed third in 1:39.85.
  • Shenot went 58.33 in the 100 butterfly for fourth place while Cifuentes Robinson came in fifth in 59.71.
  • Hirschrankin tallied a fourth-place finish in the 500 freestyle in 5:29.16 while finishing fifth in the 200 freestyle in 2:01.55.
  • Cifuentes Robinson recorded a fifth-place finish in the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.27.
