ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – Sophomore
Anna Kidd (Arbutus, Md./Mount de Sales) claimed top honors in the 200 breaststroke as the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's swim team hosted regionally-ranked University of Mary Washington in a non-conference dual meet Friday night.
The Seahawks (5-2) saw their five-meet win streak snapped by a 210-48 decision to Mary Washington (6-1) on Senior Night at the Aquatics Center at the Michael P. O'Brien Athletics & Recreation Center. The Mary Washington Eagles are ranked eighth in the West-Midwest-South region and received votes in the College Swim Coaches Association of America Top 25.
Prior to the start of the meet, St. Mary's College recognized its four seniors – captains
Rileigh Krell (Baltimore, Md./Sparrows Point) and
Bailey Edgren (Canton, Conn./Canton),
Leila McCloskey (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown), and
Christina Bonass (Chestertown, Md./Kent County) – for their years of dedication and leadership.
How It Happened
- Kidd captured the 200 breaststroke in 2:34.33 followed by sophomore Julia Milner (Middletown, Md./Middletown) in sixth in 2:49.49.
- Kidd picked up a second-place finish in the 100 breaststroke in 1:11.36 followed by Edgren in fourth in 1:15.16.
- Kidd also took third in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:59.17 followed by Edgren in fifth in 5:11.53.
- Krell earned a third-place finish in the 100 backstroke in 1:04.56 and then added a fourth-place finish in the 200 backstroke in 2:19.07 followed by first-year Emma Grimm (Derwood, Md./Magruder) in 2:32.79.
- Junior Christina Trnkus (Chevy Chase, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) collected back-to-back fourth-place finishes in the 200 butterfly (2:24.93) and the 100 freestyle (59.10). First-year Gabby DeCrisci (Fredericksburg, Va.) also competed in the 100 freestyle, finishing sixth in 1:02.63.
- The foursome of McCloskey, Edgren, junior Jazlyn Benitez (Silver Spring, Md./James H. Blake), and sophomore Marissa Fields (Clements, Md./Chopticon) placed fifth in the 200 medley relay in 2:06.13.
- Milner took fifth in the 1000 freestyle in 13:06.04 while DeCrisci collected a pair of fifth-place finishes in the 200 freestyle (2:12.97) and the 500 freestyle (5:52.10).
- Grimm, Bonass, Trnkus, and Kidd clocked a 4:04.60 in the 400 freestyle relay to finish fifth while Trnkus grabbed a fifth-place finish in the 100 butterfly in 1:06.85 and Bonass went fifth in the 50 freestyle in 29.03.
