Schwenk Posts Pool Records as Seahawks Men’s Swimming Swims Wraps Up Regular Season

SALISBURY, Md. – In their final tune-up before the 2022 Atlantic East Conference Men's Swimming Championships on Feb. 11-13, the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's swim team closed out the regular-season with a non-conference dual meet at Salisbury University on Saturday afternoon. St. Mary's College (5-6) took a 141-76 defeat in the short course meters meet as the host Sea Gulls (4-1) won nine of 14 events.
 
One of the highlights of the meet was first-year Luke Schwenk (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) setting a Maggs Pool record in the 50 backstroke with a time of 26.95, shaving off 1.48 seconds from the previous mark of 28.43 set by York College of Pennsylvania's Greg Williams in 2019.
 
How It Happened
  • Schwenk paced the Seahawks with a pair of individual wins as he captured the 100 backstroke in 59.62 before claiming top honors in the 50 freestyle in 24.58.
  • Schwenk also swam the backstroke leg of the winning 200 medley relay (1:54.74) as junior Anri Cifuentes Robinson (Easton, Md./Easton), sophomore Sam Shenot (Upper Marlboro, Md./Leonardtown), and junior captain Jack Kennedy (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) joined Schwenk on the relay.
  • Cifuentes Robinson collected a first-place finish in the 100 breaststroke in 1:14.18 while placing third in the 50 freestyle in 27.40.
  • Cifuentes Robinson was the lead on the winning 200 freestyle relay (1:42.55) as junior Sebastian Ludwig (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman), Shenot, and Schwenk were also on the relay.
  • Kennedy added second-place, third-place, and fourth-place finishes to his win in the 200-medley relay as he came in second in the 100 freestyle in 57.31, third in the 200 freestyle in 2:10.80, and fourth in the 400 freestyle in 4:42.81.
  • In addition to his two relay wins, Shenot picked up a pair of silvers in the 200 butterfly in 2:27.84 and the 100 butterfly in 1:04.54.
  • Ludwig tallied seven points for the Seahawks with a second-place finish in the 400 freestyle in 4:32.56 and a third-place finish in the 800 freestyle in 9:24.03.
