ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's swim team picked up a pair of Atlantic East Conference wins Saturday afternoon to snap a two-meet skid. St. Mary's College (6-5, 2-1 AEC) posted a 124-44 win over Gallaudet University (0-4, 0-2 AEC) as well as a 110-73 victory over Cedar Crest College (4-4, 3-2 AEC).
The Seahawks won seven of 11 events as St. Mary's swam the final two events – the 100 breaststroke and the 200 freestyle relay – as exhibitions and Cedar Crest's
Megan Fiedler captured top honors in the 200 and 500 freestyle events.
How It Happened
- The foursome of senior captain Jazlyn Benitez (Silver Spring, Md./Blake), junior Julia Milner (Middletown, Md./Middletown), graduate student Rileigh Krell (Baltimore, Md./Sparrows Point), and junior Kate Holland (Rockville, Md./Rockville) started the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay in 2:09.49.
- Sophomore Emelina Grimm (Rockville, Md./Magruder) notched the next Seahawk win as Grimm finished first in the 1000 freestyle in 12:34.46 while sophomore Gabby DeCrisci (Fredericksburg, Va.) came in third in 13:08.72.
- junior Marissa Fields (Leonardtown, Md./Chopticon) claimed a first-place finish in the 50 freestyle in 29.04 while Krell came in third in 29.50 and first-year Kate Pass (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) placed fifth in 30.62.
- Junior captain Anna Kidd (Arbutus, Md./Mount de Sales) led a 1-2-3 finish in the 200 individual medley, winning the event in 2:18.79, while Benitez came in second in 2:36.57 and first-year Isabella Ramirez (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) was third in 2:42.71.
- Holland earned a first-place finish in the 100 butterfly in 1:14.79 while Fields took first in the 100 freestyle in 1:03.59 followed by Ramirez in second in 1:05.21 and Pass in fourth place in 1:11.12.
- A second 1-2-3 finish came for the Seahawks in the 100 backstroke as Krell touched the wall first in 1:07.20 followed by Benitez in second in 1:14.45, and Bowman in third in 1:15.55.
- Milner led St. Mary's in the 200 freestyle with a second-place finish in 2:23.77 followed by junior Lilianna Bowman (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) in third in 2:25.28.
- Grimm notched a second-place finish in the 500 freestyle in 6:11.96 while DeCrisci was third in 6:14.77.
