St. Mary’s College Men’s Swimming Stumbles against Washington College

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – First-year Robert Shively (Potomac, Md./Walt Whitman) and sophomore Luke Schwenk (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) combined for five wins for the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's swim team Saturday afternoon. St. Mary's College (7-4) suffered a 172-86 setback at the hands of Washington College (3-3).
 
How It Happened
  • Shively paced the Seahawks with three individual wins while Schwenk collected two.
  • Shively touched the wall first in the 1000 freestyle in 10:28.77 followed by senior captain Sebastian Ludwig (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) in third in 10:38.85.
  • Shively then captured the 200 butterfly in 2:01.44 before leading a 1-2 finish in the 500 freestyle. He came in first in 5:04.70 followed by Ludwig in second in 5:05.93.
  • Schwenk's first victory came in the 100 backstroke as he clocked a winning time of 52.50. He then captured the 100 freestyle in 47.79.
  • The foursome of Schwenk, senior captain Anri Cifuentes Robinson (Easton, Md./Easton), junior Sam Shenot (Upper Marlboro, Md./Leonardtown), and senior captain Jack Kennedy (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area) finished second in the 200-medley relay in 1:41.97.
  • Schwenk earned a second silver medal in the 100 butterfly as he placed second in 53.16 followed by Shenot in second in 59.14.
  • Kennedy, Ludwig, Shively, and first-year William Kendrick (Laurel, Md./DeMatha Catholic) took second in the 400-freestyle relay in 3:33.18.
  • Kennedy led the Seahawks in the 200 freestyle with a third-place finish in 1:57.66.
  • Kendrick came in third in the 50 freestyle in 23.93 followed by Cifuentes Robinson in fourth in 24.01.
  • Kennedy was the team's top finisher in the 200 backstroke as he came in fourth in 2:15.25 while Cifuentes Robinson was fourth in the 200 breaststroke in 2:30.82.
  • Ludwig picked up a fourth-place finish in the 200 individual medley in 2:13.48 while Cifuentes Robinson had the highest finish in the 100 breaststroke, placing fifth in 1:04.23.
