St. Mary's City, MD-- The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's tennis team faced the Penn State Abington Nittany Lions this afternoon (Apr. 23) in a United East Conference matchup. The Seahawks defeated the Nittany Lions 9-0 to improve to 12-3 on the year. After the match, the Seahawks recognized seniors Justin Karoyli and Sam Sheets for their contributions to St. Mary's College of Maryland tennis over the past four years.
Doubles

Stephen Alam and Kier Nacua brought home an 8-3 win in the No. 1 spot to start off the doubles session for the Seahawks on senior day.Â

Sam Sheats and Tyler Vanvalkenburg competed in the No. 2 spot for St. Mary's, while Nick Rohr and Liam Pratt played in the No. 3 spot during doubles. Sheets and Vanvalkenburg came out on top with an 8-0 shutout victory, while Rohr and Pratt followed suit with an 8-0 win of their own. The Seahawks led 3-0 going into singles competition. Â
Singles

Stephen Alam got the Seahawks going on a high note in the singles period of play. Alam came out on top with a two set shoutout in the No. 1 spot, 6-0, 6-0. Kier Nacua battled for a hard fought win that went all the way to a tie breaker. Nacua took the first set 6-2, dropped the next set 6-1, but battled to a 10-7 win in the tie break. Senior Sam Sheets won his match in the No. 3 spot in similar fashion as Alam, dominating for a two set victory by scores of 6-1 and 6-0.  Â

Tyler Vanvalkenburg continued the near perfect day for St. Mary's in the No. 4, winning in a two set shutout, taking both sets by scores of 6-0. Nick Rohor kept his foot on the gas for St. Mary's in the No. 5 spot, winning 6-0, 6-1.

Justin Karolyi rounded off a great day for the Seahawks, earning another 6-0, 6-0 shutout win in the No. 6 spot.Â
