Schwenk Leads St. Mary’s College Men’s Swimming in Home-Opener

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – Junior captain Luke Schwenk (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) collected a pair of individual wins and was part of two winning relays Friday evening (Nov. 10) in the home-opener for the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's swim team. St. Mary's College (6-2) came up short in a 160-102 loss to the University of Mary Washington (3-2).
 
How It Happened
  • Schwenk touched the wall first in the 200 freestyle in 1:45.78 and then captured the 100 freestyle in 46.12.
  • Sophomore Robert Shively (Potomac, Md./Walt Whitman) also notched two individual victories. Shively came in first in the 1000 freestyle in 10:25.33 before taking first in the 200 butterfly in 2:00.13.
  • Shively also picked up a second-place finish in the 500 freestyle in 5:01.23 followed by first-year Kai Ng in third in 5:07.20.
  • St. Mary's started the meet by claiming top honors in the 200-medley relay in 1:37.42 as Schwenk led off the relay followed by first-year Kyle Smith (Crofton, Md./Crofton), Shively, and first-year Anthony Davis (Upper Marlboro, Md./Riverdale Baptist).
  • Davis then led off the winning 200-freestyle relay (1:28.80) to end the meet. Joining Davis on the relay were Smith, sophomore William Kendrick (Laurel, Md./DeMatha Catholic), and Schwenk.
  • Davis came in second in 22.60 a tight 50 freestyle race, finishing just 12 hundredths of a second behind first-place Zachary Cherry and only two hundredths of a second ahead of Eli Polovchik.
  • First-year Daniel Madigan (Waldorf, Md./North Point) earned a second-place finish in the 200 breaststroke in 2:20.57 followed by first-year Luca Fairbank (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) in third in 2:27.30.
  • Ng added a second-place finish in the 200 individual medley in 2:03.44 to lead the Seahawks while Smith went third in the 100 breaststroke in 1:03.93 and then took fifth in the 100 butterfly in 56.76. 
  • Kendrick picked up a fourth-place finish in the 100 backstroke in 1:01.05 while first-year Thomas Brown came in sixth in the 200 backstroke in 2:29.22.
