Seahawks Men’s Swimming Dominant in Atlantic East Win

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Eight Seahawks collected individual wins as the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's swim team captured all but one of the 14 events Saturday afternoon (Nov. 11). St. Mary's College (7-2, 2-0 AEC) posted a 201-51 Atlantic East Conference victory over host Gallaudet University (1-4, 0-1 AEC).
 
How It Happened
  • The Seahawks claimed the top-three spots in seven events while going 1-2 in four others.
  • Sophomore William Kendrick (Laurel, Md./DeMatha Catholic) collected four wins for St. Mary's – two individual victories and two relay triumphs. 
  • Kendrick started by anchoring the winning 200 medley relay (1:46.76) before leading a 1-2 finish in the 50 backstroke. He won the event in 27.78 while first-year CB Jurado (Odenton, Md./Arundel) came in second in 30.82.
  • Kendrick then guided a 1-2-3 sweep of the 100 backstroke, touching the wall first in 1:01.70. First-year Luca Fairbank (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) took second in 1:02.76 followed by first-year Thomas Brown in third (1:06.09).
  • Kendrick wrapped his day by swimming the third leg of the winning 200 freestyle relay (1:35.14).
  • Junior captain Luke Schwenk (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) recorded two individuals while swimming breaststroke on the winning 200 medley relay.
  • Schwenk was part of a 1-2-3 finish in the 100 butterfly as he won the event in 52.92. Sophomore Robert Shively (Potomac, Md./Walt Whitman) placed second in 55.80 followed by first-year Kai Ng finishing third in 56.94.
  • Schwenk's second individual win came in the 100 individual medley as he touched the wall first in 53.84 followed by Brown in second (1:06.04) and first-year Jake Williams (Port Republic, Md./Calvert) in third (1:20.48).
  • Ng won back-to-back events as he earned the win in the 100 breaststroke in 1:05.53 before taking top honors in the 500 freestyle in 5:24.26. He also swam the third leg of the winning 200-medley relay.
