Schwenk Sets Pool Record as Seahawks Men’s Swimming Sweeps Double-Dual Meet

WESTMINSTER, Md. – Junior captain Luke Schwenk (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) set a Harlow Pool record Saturday afternoon (Nov. 4) as the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's swim team swept the double-dual meet at McDaniel College. St. Mary's College (6-1) notched a 75-19 victory over host McDaniel (1-5) and a 79-25 triumph over Stevenson University (3-1).
 
How It Happened
·       Schwenk set the Harlow Pool record in the 100 freestyle with a winning time of 46.69 to lead a 1-2 punch. First-year Kyle Smith (Crofton, Md./Crofton) followed in second as he clocked a 50.93.
 
·       Schwenk was part of another 1-2 finish in the 50 freestyle as he won the event in 21.00 and first-year Anthony Davis (Upper Marlboro, Md./Riverdale Baptist) came in second in 22.93.
 
·       Sophomore Robert Shively (Potomac, Md./Walt Whitman) paced the Seahawks with three individual wins. Shively's first win came in the 200 freestyle as he touched the wall in 1:52.40. He then picked up the victory in the 200 butterfly in 2:01.90.
 
·       Shively also captured the 500 freestyle in 5:09.46 while first-year CB Jurado (Odenton, Md./Arundel) placed third in 5:33.34.
 
·       First-year Kai Ng grabbed a pair of first-place finishes as Ng took top honors in the 400 individual medley (4:33.75) and the 200 backstroke (2:05.84).
 
·       It was a 1-2 finish for the Seahawks in the 200 breaststroke as sophomore Jair Jackson (Laurel, Md./Chapelgate Christian) won the event in 2:22.30 followed by first-year Daniel Madigan (Waldorf, Md./North Point) in second in 2:23.92.
 
·       The meet began with St. Mary's winning the 200-medley relay in 1:39.75 behind the foursome of Schwenk, Jackson, Smith, and Davis.
 
·       St. Mary's ended the meet as they began it – winning a relay. The Seahawks took first in the 200-freestyle relay as the quartet of Jackson, sophomore William Kendrick (Laurel, Md./DeMatha Catholic), Smith, and Davis clocked a 1:33.61.
 
·       Jurado added a second-place finish in the 1000 freestyle in 11:27.09.
