Seahawks Men’s Swimming Sets Four Pool Records at Washington College

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Junior captain Luke Schwenk (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) was part of four Casey Swim Center records, one St. Mary's College of Maryland school record, and one NCAA B Cut as St. Mary's College closed out the fall semester Saturday afternoon (Dec. 9). The Seahawks (7-3) lost 153-106 at Washington College (4-5) in the last action of 2023.

How It Happened
  • In leading off the winning 400 medley relay (3:31.30), Schwenk tallied a pool record, a school record, and an NCAA B Cut of 48.61 in the 100 backstroke, shaving off 1.09 seconds off his previous school mark of 49.70 set on December 3, 2022.
  • The 400-medley relay set a Casey Swim Center record of 3:31.30 behind the efforts of Schwenk, first-year Kyle Smith (Crofton, Md./Crofton), sophomore Robert Shively (Potomac, Md./Walt Whitman), and first-year Anthony Davis (Upper Marlboro, Md./Riverdale Baptist).
  • Schwenk notched back-to-back pool records in capturing both the 50 and 100 freestyle events. He claimed top honors in the 50 freestyle in 20.34 before winning the 100 freestyle in 45.60.
  • Schwenk also anchored the first-place 200 freestyle relay (1:28.88) as Davis, sophomore Jair Jackson (Laurel, Md./Chapelgate Christian), and Smith joined him on the relay.
  • Shively won the 200 butterfly in 1:54.17 before taking top honors in the 500 freestyle in 5:00.96. He also added a third-place finish in the 200 freestyle in 1:54.64.
  • First-year Daniel Madigan (Waldorf, Md./North Point) collected a pair of second-place finishes in the 1000 freestyle in 10:48.62 and the 200 breaststroke in 2:14.52.
  • Jackson picked up a second-place finish in the 200 freestyle in 1:52.60 while going third in the 100 butterfly in 54.20.
  • Sophomore William Kendrick (Laurel, Md./DeMatha Catholic) placed second in the 100 backstroke in 57.77 while first-year Kai Ng (Silver Spring, Md./Northwood) came in second in the 200 backstroke in 2:09.68.
  • Smith led the Seahawks in the 100 breaststroke with a third-place finish in 1:02.90 while first-year Thomas Brown (Clarksburg, Md./Clarksburg) went fourth in the 200 individual medley in 2:23.47.
