Seahawks Women's Rowing Kicks Off Spring Season at the Washington College Invitational

3/29/2023 1:55:00 PM

Chestertown, MD-- The St. Mary's Women's Rowing Team competed in their first regatta of the spring 2023 season at the Washington College Invite (Mar. 25). Racing was canceled mid-morning due to poor conditions. The afternoon round of racing was not completed, so the WV8, W2V8 and W3V8 squads did not have the opportunity to race. Racing was with an incoming tide and increasingly rough conditions throughout the morning.

How it Happened:

  • The women's varsity 8 had a clash of oars with Bryn Mawr, so the racing was stopped and then restarted partway down the course, resulting in a 1500m race. The Seahawks were able to come in first place with a time of 5:29. Bryn Mawr followed in second, completing the race in 5:46. Franklin & Marshall took home third with a time of 5:55.

Quote from Head Coach Anna Lindgren-Streicher:

  • "In the only completed race of the day for the women's team, our varsity 8 showed some of their potential and also learned where they can improve. I'm proud of the way our whole team handled the adverse conditions"

Up Next:

  • vs. Wellesley (Mar. 31) - 6:15 p.m.
