Seahawks Women’s Lacrosse Post Shutout Win on Senior Day

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's lacrosse tallied their first shutout win of the season Saturday afternoon (April 22) on Senior Day. St. Mary's College (8-7, 3-0 UEC) notched a 22-0 United East Conference win over Mount Aloysius College (3-7, 2-2 UEC), clinching a berth in the upcoming United East Women's Lacrosse Championship Tournament.
 
Prior to the beginning of the game, the Seahawks' four seniors – defender Rileigh Byrd (Eldersburg, Md./Mount de Sales), attackers Erin Carmody (Olney, Md./Sherwood) and Lily Davison (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney), and midfielder Erin Piper (Manchester, Md./Manchester Valley) – for their years of dedication and leadership.
 
Junior defender Rachael Freeman (Baltimore, Md./Friends) scooped up her 100th career ground ball with her second pickup of the day, finishing the game with two grounders.
 
How It Happened
  • St. Mary's gained a 10-0 lead in the first quarter, putting a running clock in motion with less than a minute to go in the opening frame.
  • The Mounties took their first and only shot of the game with around two minutes left in the game when Jordan Mason fired a shot wide of the cage.
