Match Recap: Men's Tennis | | Allison Szymanski '17

St. Mary's College Men's Tennis Sweeps Lancaster Bible for Second Consecutive United East Conference Championship Title

Hershey, PA. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland Men's Tennis team traveled to Hershey, Pennsylvania to take on Lancaster Bible in the United East Conference Championship at the Hershey Racquet Club. The Seahawks swept the Chargers 5 - 0 to become the United East Conference Champions for the second year in a row.

How It Happened:

Doubles

  • The Seahawks won all three of their doubles matches.

  • The pair of Boris Palmade and Stephen Alam defeated their Lancaster Bible opponents Josh Jarvis and Devon Clemmer in the number one doubles spot with a score of 8-2.

  • Nick Rohr and Daoud Alkhalidi battled it out in the number two doubles spot against AJ Kwiatkowski and Micah Weaver of Lancaster Bible. The two Seahawks defeated the Chargers 8-5. 

  • Keawe Johnson and Liam Pratt finalized the doubles sweep in the number three spot with a score of 8-4.

Singles

  • The Seahawks won the two singles matches that were able to be completely played through. Two of the singles matches were left unfinished due to five unanswered team points. One single match was not played. 

  • Stephen Alam's battled Devon Clemmer in the number one singles spot. Clemmer of Lancaster Bible took the first set 6-4. The pair continued to battle but was stopped at the score of 3-3 and the match in the number one single seed went unfinished. 

  • Nick Rohr began the number two singles spot for the Seahawks winning the first set 6-1. However, this spot went unfinished during the second set at a score of 5-1. 

  • Keawe Johnson dominated the number three singles spot, winning it in two sets: 6-2, 6-2. 

  • Daoud Alkhalidi defeated AJ Kwiatkowski of Lancaster Bible in the number four singles spot in two sets. Both sets were won with a score of 6-1. 

  • The number five and six singles spots were left at no result. 

Up Next for the Seahawks

The Seahawks automatically qualify for the NCAA tournament. The opponent, time, and location will be announced via a selection show on the NCAA website on Monday, May 1st at 12:30 PM. The first round of the NCAA tournament will take place next weekend, May 5th and 6th.
