ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – St. Mary's College of Maryland women's swimming captured nine events Saturday afternoon (Oct. 27) to earn their first wins of the 2024-25 season. St. Mary's College (2-2) posted a 158-93 victory over Randolph College (2-2) and a 142-112 triumph over Virginia Wesleyan University (1-2).
Three Seahawks - junior captain
Venus Kai Judge (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) and sophomores
Kelsie Miller (Potomac, Md./Churchill) and
Emerson Young (Bel Air, Md./Harford Technical) – all picked up two individual wins while swimming on the first-place 200 medley relay.
How It Happened
- First-year Addison Willey (Lexington Park, Md./Great Mills), Judge, Miller, and Young clocked a 1:57.11 to touch the wall first in the 200-medley relay.
- Judge claimed top honors in the 100-breaststroke in 1:16.87 as well as the 500 freestyle in 5:42.39.
- One of Miller's two wins came in the 200-butterfly in 2:20.91 before leading a 1-2 finish in the 400 individual medley, taking first in 4:54.86 followed by Judge in second in 5:08.87.
- Young triumphed in the 50-freestyle in 25.16 and then went 1-2 with Miller in the 100-freestyle, winning the event in 55.28 followed by Miller in second in 56.61.
- First-year Lauren Goulet (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) took first in the 1000 freestyle in 11:58.21.
- Willey led a 1-2 finish in the 100-butterfly, winning the race in 1:08.38 followed by first-year Ella Malzahn (Durham, N.C./Jordan) in second in 1:09.28.
- Willey, first-year Mandy Cartwright (Waldorf, Md./Thomas Stone), Goulet, and Young notched a second-place finish in the 200-freestyle relay in 1:45.86.
- Willey added a second-place finish in the 100-backstroke in 1:06.37 while sophomore Kaitlyn Soldon (Warrenton, Va./Kettle Run) followed in fourth in 1:10.95 and senior captain Emelina Grimm (Rockville, Md./Magruder) in fifth in 1:15.04.
- Cartwright earned a third-place finish in the 200-freestyle in 2:12.53 while Malzahn took third in the 200 breaststroke in 2:56.40.
- Goulet tallied a fourth-place finish in the 200-backstroke in 2:32.36 to lead the Seahawks in that event.
