SMCM Men’s Swimming Dominates in Conference-Opening Victories

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – St. Mary's College of Maryland men's swimming captured all 14 events in beginning Atlantic East Conference action with two wins Saturday afternoon (Nov. 9). St. Mary's College (5-3, 2-0 AEC) bested both Gallaudet University (0-6, 0-3 AEC), 216-24, and Marywood University (1-6, 1-1 AEC), 213-30.
 
Nine different Seahawks either claimed an individual win and/or were part of a winning relay. First-year Harrison Greenwald (Reisterstown, Md.) paced SMCM with three individual victories while senior captain Luke Schwenk (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) and first-year Stephen Lepine (Rockville, Md.) each added a pair of solo wins.
 
Greenwald began his meet with a first-place finish in the 1000-freestyle in 10:21.57 before winning the 500-freestyle in 4:59.17. He ended the meet by touching the wall first in the 400-individual medley in 4:31.81. Lepine earned top honors in the 200-butterfly in 2:23.53 and then won the 200-backstroke in 2:23.46.
 
Schwenk was the lead-off swimmer on the winning 200-medley relay (1:40.99) alongside sophomore Luca Fairbank (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney), junior captain William Kendrick (Laurel, Md./DeMatha Catholic), and sophomore Anthony Davis (Upper Marlboro, Md./Riverdale Baptist).
 
Schwenk picked up the victory in the 100-backstroke in 52.63 before using a season-best time of 46.78 to claim first place in the 100-freestyle. Schwenk ended the day by anchoring the winning 200-freestyle relay (1:29.69) with Davis, sophomore Kyle Smith (Crofton, Md./Crofton), and Kendrick.
 
Davis posted a lifetime-best time of 1:54.84 in winning the 200-freestyle while Smith captured the 100 breaststroke in 1:04.08. Kendrick notched a victory in the 50-freestyle in 23.27 while sophomore Daniel Madigan (Waldorf, Md./North Point) touched the wall first in the 200-breaststroke in 2:22.45.
 
Junior Tony Lumezi (Towson, Md./Towson) collected SMCM's final victory, winning the 100-butterfly in 1:02.29.
 
St. Mary's College 1-2-3 finishes in seven events while going 1-2 in four additional events.
