ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's lacrosse team concluded its third consecutive undefeated conference season Tuesday evening (Apr. 9). St. Mary's College (8-5, 4-0 UEC) handed Notre Dame of Maryland University (2-6, 0-1 UEC) a 26-1 setback as junior attacker
Hailey Betch (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) had herself a night, matching her career-highs of nine goals and 11 points. Additionally, Betch notched her 50th goal of the season.
The Seahawks locked up the No. 1 seed in the upcoming United East Conference Women's Lacrosse Championship Tournament as well. The playoffs will begin April 27 with first-round action.
How It Happened
- SMCM rolled out to a 9-0 lead in the first quarter as senior captain MC Mortimer (Baltimore, Md./Friends), junior midfielder Madison Laine (Kingsville, Md./Mercy), and sophomore attacker Katelin Scala (Catonsville, Md./Mount de Sales) all tallied three points in the run.
- St. Mary's College tacked on three more, including two consecutive goals by Betch, to stake a 12-0 advantage at 10:00 of the second period. The Gators avoided the shutout as Jade Stewart found the back of the net at the 5:01 mark. The Seahawks took a 14-1 lead into halftime.
- The hosts outscored Notre Dame, 12-0, over the second half as Betch exploded for five goals, including three straight in a three-minute span.

- SMCM posted a season-high 55 shots to the Gators' eight while notching a 27-5 margin in ground balls.
- St. Mary's College edged the visitors, 16-14, in draw controls as Scala, senior attacker Bella Dunigan (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville), and first-year defender Claire Boudreau (Towson, Md./Towson) all collected four draws each.

- Senior captain Rachael Freeman (Baltimore, Md./Friends) collected five ground balls, two caused turnovers, and two draw controls to lead the Seahawks' defensive efforts.
- First-year Allie Greeley (Havre de Grace, Md./Havre de Grace) made five stops in 43 minutes while first-year Annie Wise (Canton, Ga./Woodstock) posted a shutout in the final 17 minutes.

- Leah Hasberry turned away 11 Seahawk shots in the team's third straight loss.
