ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – Junior
Emerson Young (Bel Air, Md./Harford Technical) tallied two individual wins as St. Mary's College of Maryland women's swimming hosted a quad meet Saturday afternoon (Nov. 1) for its home-opening meet. St. Mary's College (4-2) handed a pair of 133-129 setbacks to both Southern Virginia University (4-4) and Stevenson University (3-2) before falling 146-116 to Bridgewater (Va.) College (3-1).
How It Happened
- Young's first win of the afternoon came in the 50-backstroke as she touched the wall first in 28.33 while sophomore Isa Bianco (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) came in fifth in 33.10.
- Young also captured the 100-freestyle in 54.96 while sophomore Addison Willey (Lexington Park, Md./Great Mills) placed fourth in 58.54 and sophomore Mandy Cartwright (Waldorf, Md./Thomas Stone) went sixth in 59.94.
- The foursome of Young, Willey, Cartwright, and senior captain Venus Kai Judge (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) ended the meet with a second-place finish in the 200-medley relay in 1:44.80.
- Young, sophomore Ella Malzahn (Durham, N.C./Jordan), Judge, and Willey began the meet with a third-place finish in the 200-medley relay in 1:58.62.
- Willey led the Seahawks in the 50-freestyle with a third-place finish in 26.76 while senior captain Kate Pass (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) went sixth in 28.53.
- Judge notched a third-place finish in the 100-breaststroke in 1:16.72 while junior Natalie Canham (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) placed fifth in 1:19.03 and Malzahn was sixth in 1:20.39.
- In the 50-butterfly, first-year Olivia Macaluso took third in 30.03 while Malzahn finished fifth in 31.19.
- Canham placed fourth in the 50-breaststroke in 36.09 while Malzahn came in fifth in 36.19.
- SMCM went 4-5-6 in the 500-freestyle as Cartwright went fourth in 5:55.99 followed by first-year Lily Quill (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) in fifth in 6:02.55 and sophomore Lauren Goulet (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) in sixth in 6:03.85.
- Sophomore Jesse Slingluff (Crownsville, Md./Old Mill) posted a fourth-place finish in the 200-individual medley in 2:28.96 while going fifth in the 100-individual medley in 1:10.47.
- Macaluso collected a fifth-place finish in the 100-butterfly in 1:07.13 while Slingluff was sixth in 1:08.37.
- Judge also earned a sixth-place finish in the 200-freestyle in 2:10.29 while Bianco was seventh in the 100-backstroke in 1:14.01.
