SMCM Women’s Swimming Collects Seven Event Wins in Non-Conference Victory

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – St. Mary's College of Maryland women's swimming won seven events Saturday afternoon (Nov. 8) for their fifth meet victory of the season. St. Mary's College (5-2) posted a 135-120 non-conference victory over Elizabethtown College (4-2).
 
Junior Kelsie Miller (Rockville, Md./Winston Churchill) collected three individual wins to lead the Seahawks. Junior Emerson Young (Bel Air, Md./Harford Technical) tallied two individual victories while leading off the first-place 200-medley relay.
 
How It Happened
  • Young, sophomore Ella Malzahn (Durham, N.C./Jordan), first-year Olivia Macaluso, and sophomore Addison Willey (Lexington Park, Md./Great Mills) began the meet by winning the 200-medley relay in 1:59.08.
  • Young then picked up her first individual win in the 200-freestyle in 2:02.87 while sophomore Mandy Cartwright (Waldorf, Md./Thomas Stone) placed third in 2:08.64.
  • Miller's first victory of the afternoon came in the 200-butterfly as she touched the wall first in 2:17.54 while sophomore Jesse Slingluff (Crownsville, Md./Old Mill) came in third in 2:34.95.
  • Young claimed her second win in the 50-freestyle, clocking a 26.43, while Willey was right on Young's heels, finishing second in 26.68.
  • SMCM swept the 100-freestyle with Miller leading the way in 56.35 while Cartwright was second (1:00.93) followed by sophomore Lauren Goulet (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) in third (1:01.91).
  • Goulet notched a win of her own, winning the 500-freestyle in 5:54.06 while Cartwright took second in 5:58.06.
  • St. Mary's College swept the 100-butterfly as well as Miller placed first (1:00.07) followed by Macaluso in second (1:06.84) and Slingluff in third (1:10.18).
  • Goulet added a second-place finish in the 1000-freestyle in 12:16.43 while first-year Lily Quill (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) finished third in 12:37.75.
  • Sophomore Elly Bauer (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) went second in the 100-backstroke in 1:14.97 while sophomore Isa Bianco (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) came in third in 1:15.66.
  • Junior Natalie Canham (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur) picked up a third-place finish in the 100-breaststroke in 1:18.82 while coming in fourth in the 200-breaststroke in 2:50.55.
  • Slingluff recorded a third-place finish in the 400-individual medley in 5:29.98 while Quill finished fourth in the 200-backstroke in 2:35.72.
  • The Seahawks ended the meet with a third-place finish in the 400-freestyle relay in 4:20.51 behind the efforts of Young, Willey, Cartwright, and Miller.
