St. Mary’s College Men’s Swimming Dominant at McDaniel Tri-Meet

WESTMINSTER, Md. – St. Mary's College of Maryland men's swimming cruised to a pair of non-conference wins Saturday afternoon (Dec. 6), capturing nine of 11 events. St. Mary's College (8-4) tallied a 79-16 victory over host McDaniel College (2-5) while blowing past Hood College (1-8), 89-6.
 
First-year Brendan Mannion (West Chester, Pa./Unionville) paced the Seahawks with two individual wins while anchoring the winning 400-freestyle relay.
 
How It Happened
  • The foursome of senior captain Will Kendrick (Laurel, Md./DeMatha Catholic), juniors Daniel Madigan (Waldorf, Md./North Point) and Kyle Smith (Crofton, Md./Crofton), and sophomore Harrison Greenwald (Eldersburg, Md./Century) claimed first place in the 200-medley relay in 1:40.40 to open the meet.
  • Mannion touched the wall first in the 100-individual medley in 54.66 while leading a 1-2 punch in the 200-individual medley. Mannion captured the 200 IM in 2:02.68 followed by Madigan in second in 2:08.56.
  • First-year Seth Geasey (Myersville, Md./Middletown) placed first in the 500-freestyle in 5:07.43 while sophomore Stephen Lepine (Rockville, Md./GWU Online) came in second in 5:10.01.
  • Greenwald led a 1-2-3 sweep of the 200-freestyle as he won the event in 1:47.25. Lepine took second in 1:54.98 followed by Madigan in third in 1:55.06.
  • The Seahawks posted a 1-2-3 finish in the 100-butterfly. Smith led the way with a first-place finish in 56.44 while junior Anthony Davis (Upper Marlboro, Md./Riverdale Baptist) was second in 56.52. First-year Justin Bonner (Waynesboro, Pa./Waynesboro Area) rounded the Top 3 with a third-place finish in 57.15.
  • SMCM notched a third 1-2-3 finish in the 100-backstroke. Kendrick finished first in 58.02 followed by first-year Harry Brooks (Centreville, Va./Westfield) in second in 58.20. Bonner took third in 58.70.
  • Junior Luca Fairbank (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) won the 100-breaststroke in 1:02.92 while first-year Kellen Pumphrey (Ellicott City, Md./Mount Hebron) went second in 1:05.25.
  • Davis, Geasey, Greenwald and Mannion ended the meet by winning the 400-freestyle relay in 3:19.29.
  • Kendrick led SMCM in the 50-freestyle, coming in second in 24:05, while first-year Noah Brittain (Bowie, Md./Bowie) was third in 24.38.
  • Senior Tony Lumezi (Towson, Md./Towson) collected a second-place finish in the 100-freestyle in 51.80.
