SMCM Women’s Swimming Sweeps Non-Conference Tri-Meet

WESTMINSTER, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's swim team won eight of 11 events Saturday afternoon (Dec. 6). St. Mary's College (8-4) posted a 69-26 victory over host McDaniel College (2-6) while notching a 74-21 win over Hood College (3-6) at the non-conference tri-meet.
 
Senior captain Venus Kai Judge (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) and juniors Kelsie Miller (Rockville, Md./Winston Churchill) and Emerson Young (Bel Air, Md./Harford Technical) all won two individual events and were part of a victorious relay.
 
How It Happened
  • The foursome of Young, junior Natalie Canham (Berlin, Md./Stephen Decatur), Miller, and sophomore Addison Willey (Lexington Park, Md./Great Mills) opened the meet with a win in the 200-medley relay in 1:58.95.
  • Judge led a 1-2-3 sweep of the 500-freestyle as she touched the wall first in 5:49.05. Sophomore Mandy Cartwright (Waldorf, Md./Thomas Stone) came in second in 5:49.85 while sophomore Lauren Goulet (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) took third in 6:00.19.
  • Judge also won the 100-freestyle in 1:00.84 while Goulet finished in third in 1:02.90.
  • It was a 1-2 punch for the Seahawks in the 200-freestyle as Young won the event in 2:07.81 while Willey was second in 2:09.82.
  • Young also touched the wall first in the 100-backstroke in 1:05.00 while first-year Liv Macaluso (Killingworth, Conn./Haddam-Killingworth) placed third in 1:10.50.
  • Miller came in first in the 100-butterfly in 1:00.89 while Macaluso added a third-place finish in 1:06.00.
  • Miller also captured the 200-individual medley in 2:21.85.
  • Willey, Goulet, Cartwright, and Judge ended the tri-meet with a win in the 400-freestyle relay in 4:03.36.
  • Canham notched a pair of second-place finishes as she grabbed silver in the 100-individual medley (1:10.97) and the 100-breaststroke (1:18.74).
  • Sophomore Isa Bianco (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) paced the team in the 50-freestyle with a fifth-place finish in 28.29.
