Men's Tennis Goes 6-1 in Regular Season With Senior Day Win

St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's tennis team hosted Penn College for their last regular season United East match, rescheduled from 4/12/2025. The Seahawks dictated the play against the Wildcats for a 6-1 win. The Seahawks conclude their regular season with a 6-1 record, earning a first-round bye as the #2 seed in the United East Conference Championship Tournament and will play the winner of #6 seed Lancaster Bible vs. #3 seed Penn State Abington.
 
The Seahawks recognized their four graduating members- Joey Carson (Sykesville, Md./ Century), Hudson Christensen (Annapolis, Md./ St. Mary's), Devon Gorel (Jessup, Md./ Hammond), and Nick Rohr (Fairfax County, Va./ James W. Robinson)- for their years or leadership and dedication.
 
How It Happened:
Doubles
  • Nick Rohr (Fairfax County, Va./ James W. Robinson) and Jacob Nelson (Olney, Md./ Sherwood) competed in the No. 1 doubles match for the Seahawks. Rohr and Nelson controlled the Wildcats 6-0.
  • Andrew Hand (Huntingtown, Md./ Huntingtown) and Alex Lyman (Annapolis, Md./ Annapolis) won in action in the No. 2 doubles duo 6-3.
  • The Seahawks No.3 double tandem featured Max Esztergomi (Bethesda, Md./ Walt Whitman) and Hudson Christensen (Annapolis, Md./ St. Mary's). Esztergomi and Christensen finished the doubles sweep with a win of 6-1.
Singles 
  • Nick Rohr (Fairfax County, Va./ James W. Robinson) won the match in two sets in the No. 1 singles spot in action, winning 6-4, 6-3.
  • Max Esztergomi (Bethesda, Md./ Walt Whitman) competed in the No. 2 match, controlling the Wildcats 6-1, 6-2.
  • Jacob Nelson (Olney, Md./ Sherwood) won in the No. 3 spot in two sets, 6-2, 6-0.
  • Andrew Hand (Huntingtown, Md./ Huntingtown) defeated the Wildcats in the No. 4 match 6-2, 6-4.
  • Alex Lyman (Annapolis, Md./ Annapolis) dominated action in the No. 5 spot, winning 6-2, 6-0.
  • Devon Gorel (Jessup, Md./ Hammond) fell in back-and-forth action in three sets the No. 6 spot. Gorel lost the first set 7-6 after dropping the tiebreak 7-4. Gorel then rallied back to take the second set 6-4. The match went to a third set super tiebreaker, where Gorel ultimately lost to the Wildcats 10-8.
