SMCM Women’s Lacrosse Bows Out in NCAA First Round

SALISBURY, Md. – The 2025 campaign for the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's lacrosse team wrapped up Saturday afternoon (May 10) in the 2025 NCAA Division III Women's Lacrosse Championship Tournament First Round. St. Mary's College (10-8) dropped an 18-10 decision to No. 19 Haverford College (15-5) after falling behind 12-3 in the first half.
 
How It Happened
  • Haverford opened the game with a 3-0 run to lead by three with 4:56 left in the first quarter. Senior captain Hailey Betch (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) put the Seahawks on the board at 2:14 as Betch finished off a pass from junior defender Carsyn Smith (Crownsville, Md./Old Mill).
  • Brooke Epstein ignited and fueled a 7-0 run for the Fords as Epstein found the back of the net four times to give her squad a 10-1 lead with 6:55 left in the first half. Betch scored twice in a 50-second span to close the gap to seven with 4:44 remaining in the half. Haverford tacked on two more to head into halftime with a 12-3 advantage.
  • SMCM outscored the Fords, 2-1, in the first four minutes of the third frame to stay within eight. After Haverford tallied two in a row, St. Mary's College strung together three straight, including a pair from senior captain Colin Horton (University Park, Md./Elizabeth Seton), to make it 15-8 with 12:52 to go in regulation.
  • The Fords closed out the game with a 3-2 push over the final 11:15 of the game for the eight-goal margin of victory.

  • The Seahawks were a perfect 4-for-4 on free-position shots while Haverford made 8-of-11.

  • Smith paced the defense with four ground balls and a caused turnover while sophomore defender Claire Boudreau (Towson, Md./Towson) collected three caused turnovers and two draw controls.
  • Senior Isabel Gautreaux (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) started and played the first 45 minutes of the game, making six stops, scooping up three ground balls and causing two turnovers.
  • Sophomore Allie Greeley (Havre de Grace, Md./Havre de Grace) saw action in the final quarter with three saves and one ground ball.
 
Haverford Game Notes
  • Epstein put up a game-best five goals to lead the Fords.
  • Annie Bravacos turned away five Seahawk shots as Haverford snapped St. Mary's College's six-game win streak.
