St. Mary’s College Men’s Tennis Rolls Past Cairn

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's tennis team remained undefeated in United East Conference action with their third consecutive win Tuesday afternoon (March 31). St. Mary's College (5-5, 2-0 UEC) leveled its overall record with a 7-0 blanking of Cairn University (1-8, 0-3 UEC).
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
DOUBLES
  • The Seahawks captured all three doubles matches to gain a 1-0 lead heading into singles play.
  • Sophomores Alex Lyman (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) and Jacob Nelson (Olney, Md./Sherwood) made quick work of Matheo Baez and Vicente Martinez-Pavez at No. 1 doubles with a 6-0 win.
  • Sophomore Dylan Courtney (Chaptico, Md./Chopticon) and first-year Nate Willoughby (Edgewater, Md./South River) earned a 6-1 victory over Marcos Dasina and Kirk Prasch at the third flight.
  • Senior captain Max Esztergomi (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) and junior Andrew Hand (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown) tallied a 6-3 triumph over Evan Ciccone and Joshua Nacy at the second flight.
 
SINGLES
  • SMCM claimed straight-set wins in the first three singles with Lyman clinching the match for St. Mary's College with a 6-1, 6-0 over Martinez-Pavez at No. 3 singles.
  • The Seahawks dropped only two games over the final three singles matches as Courtney (No. 6) and Willoughby (No. 5) blanked their opponents and Hand posted a 6-1, 6-1 triumph at No. 5 singles.
