HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, Va. - St. Mary's College of Maryland baseball (4-3-1) fell to the Rochester Institute of Technology (1-2) 12-7 on Sunday (Mar. 3) morning and played to a 5-5 tie against Hampden-Sydney (4-3-1) on Sunday (Mar. 3) afternoon. The game against Hampden-Syndey reached 11 innings before being suspended due to darkness.

How It Happened (Hampden-Sydney)
Trailing 1-0 in the fourth inning, the Seahawks started to get the bats going with a total of three runs between the fourth and fifth innings. Connor Coursey smacked a two RBI double into left center to bring home Derek Taitano and Jay Hammett. Next, Hammett took matters into his own hands, blasting a solo home run to left field for the 3-1 lead. Hammett's home run was his second of the season, which leads the team.
The Tigers answered in the sixth inning with three runs to regain the lead, 4-3. However, the Seahawks took the lead once again in the eighth with two runs of their own. D. Taitano started the short scoring burst when he lined a RBI single into left field. Dakota Merritt followed by placing a RBI single down the left field line. Hampden-Sydney evened the score at five a piece in the bottom of the ninth to bring the game into extra innings. The Seahawks and Tigers remained tied in the 11th inning until the game was suspended due to darkness.
Inside the Box Score
Hammett, Dillon Waters, and D. Taitano led the Seahawks from the plate with two hits each. Coursey paced the Seahawks with two RBI, while Sam James, Bowen Plagge, Brady Waters, and Merritt drew a walk. Additionally, Plagge stole a bag on the base paths.
Jackson Edelman had his second consecutive strong start on the mound, pitching eight innings, while allowing just two earned runs. Edelman recorded two strikeouts on the afternoon. D. Waters and Jonathan Everidge also tallied one strikeout a piece while pitching in relief.
